Permanent brow healing, day by day
The short answer
Brows look dark and bold for the first 3–4 days, flake and itch around days 5–10, can look faint or patchy around days 10–14, and settle into their true, softer color by weeks 4–6. Downtime is minimal: most people return to work the same or next day. Your touch-up happens around 6 weeks.

Stage by stage
- Day 1: brows look crisp, dark, and bold. Mild redness, tenderness, or swelling is normal, and some clear fluid may come to the surface. Follow the aftercare method I send you home with.
- Days 2–4: color looks even darker and thicker as the skin tightens. This is the "did I make a mistake?" phase. You didn't. Most of this intensity will soften.
- Days 5–10: flaking and itching begin. Tiny flakes lift off with pigment in them. Let them fall off on their own. Picking pulls color out and can leave gaps.
- Days 10–14: brows can look very light or even patchy as fresh skin forms over the pigment. This is the ghosting stage. The pigment hasn't gone anywhere; it's just sitting under a cloudy new layer of skin, and it comes back as that skin settles. Don't add makeup or book an early touch-up. Just wait it out.
- Weeks 3–4: color gradually comes back as the skin clears.
- Weeks 4–6: the skin surface is healed and your true color shows. It's usually 30–50% softer than day one.
- Around 6 weeks: your included touch-up, where we fill any spots that didn't hold and fine-tune color and shape.
- After your touch-up: a shorter, lighter version of the same healing cycle, then you're done.
How much downtime is there?
Very little. Most people go back to work or everyday life the same day or the next. There's no bruising in most cases, and your brows just look like bold, freshly filled-in brows for the first few days. The real limits are on water, sweat, sun, and makeup on your brows for about 10–14 days. See the aftercare guide for exactly what to avoid and when.
Planning around an event? Book at least 6–8 weeks before a wedding, photos, or big trip. That gives you time for your touch-up and for the color to settle.
What's normal, and when to call a doctor
Normal: mild redness, tenderness, and a little swelling for a day or two, itching, flaking, and color that looks too dark and then too light.
Not normal: redness or swelling that gets worse after day three, heat, spreading pain, yellow or green discharge, a rash, or fever. These can be signs of infection or a reaction. Contact your doctor, and let me know too.
Lip blushing healing
- Days 1–3: lips look bright and saturated and may be swollen, especially the first morning.
- Days 3–7: lips feel dry and peel. Keep them moisturized and don't pick.
- Weeks 2–3: color may look faded or uneven while new skin forms.
- Weeks 4–6: your soft healed color blooms through.
Common questions
Why do my new brows look so dark?
The pigment sits close to the surface for the first several days, and the skin is slightly swollen and tight. Healed brows are usually 30–50% softer than they look on day one.
Why did my brows disappear after a week or two?
That's the ghosting stage. A fresh layer of skin forms over the pigment and makes it look faint. Color typically returns over weeks three and four.
How long until my brows are fully healed?
The surface heals in about two weeks, but true healed color takes about 4–6 weeks. After your touch-up, allow another 4–6 weeks for the final result.
Is it normal for my brows to be patchy after healing?
Yes. Everyone's skin holds pigment differently, and some spots don't retain on the first pass. That's exactly what the touch-up is for.
